Summer Cheerleading Camps
Cheerleading camps are a great way to improve current skills, learn new ones, bond with newer members of the squad and make new friends. Going to a cheerleaders camp can be something for the whole school squad or for an individual who may wish to attend. Attending a camp is considered by many people to be an investment, as it helps to improve and hone a cheerleader’s level of skill.
While there may be many reasons why a school squad should go to a camp for cheerleaders, it is not the best or logical choice for everyone. You need to carefully consider all aspects, such as your cheerleading abilities, what goals you want to reach for the next school year and if you have the monetary cheerleading resources available to attend.
There are some advantages to attending cheerleading camps, such as the chance for the new and old members to bond; however, it also gives squads a good chance to practice together, which will also help to build trust. It is a great way for new coaches to get some experience in before the new school year starts. It is also a perfect opportunity for squads and coaches to practice for any future or upcoming competitions, such as an NCA cheerleading competition. A camp will also offer safety instruction on the different tumbles and stunts that are performed.
However, just as with anything else, there are also some disadvantages to attending a cheerleading camp. There are several things that you should consider before attending. Most of the camps require a certain level of athleticism so it is important that everyone be in shape and to assess your squad’s level of skill before deciding to attend. Camps are also very competitive. If you are a new squad or if you are not up to a certain skill level, then you may want to wait a while longer before attending. It can also be very expensive to attend and some people may not be able to afford it; it’s not good if only half of the squad members are able to go.
It can seem a little intimidating for those attending for the first time so it may help to know a few things to expect up front. The goal of a camp for cheerleaders is to work together as a team and to learn about trusting your fellow teammates; without teamwork things like learning new cheer and dance routines, stunts and even yells will not work.
At cheerleading camps there are usually several hours every day that are spent learning new stunts and routines, which means very sore muscles for those who are not in good shape. It is a good idea to be sure to get plenty of workout time in before you go to camp. There are also competitions held which can result in some hurt feelings and frustration, so be sure to keep your emotions under control to avoid problems.
